Earl Pyle, 86, Carthage, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Missouri Veterans’ Home/Mt. Vernon, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1924, on the family farm near Red Oak, to Frank and Neata (Gulick) Pyle.

He attended Lockwood High School and was a United States Army veteran, serving as a radio operator for the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Army Division during World War II, until 1945, earning the American Theater Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), and the World War II Victory Ribbon. After his discharge from the Army he farmed and worked as a carpenter. He was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church.

He married Esther Ann Hagler Nov. 25, 1947, in Red Oak. She survives.

Additional survivors include one son, Dennis E. Pyle, Carthage; six sisters, Fern Wright, Neosho, Lorene Glidewell, Springfield, Eula Mae Thomas, Golden City, Ruth Platt, Carthage, Erma Thomas, Lockwood, and Loretta Thomas, Miller; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Uber; and four brothers, Harley Pyle, Paul Pyle, Ancil Pyle and Howard Pyle.
