OBITUARY
Sarah Clark, wife of Samuel Clark, died in Swedona, Mercer Co., Ill., April 5, 1878, aged 68 years, 10 months and 5 days.
The deceased was born in Delaware county, N.Y., June 1,1809, and came to this State in June 1837, and was married in August 1837 to her husband, who survives her- her maiden name being Huyck.
Mother Clark was not a member of any Christian society, there being none of her choice (Presbyterian) near where she lived; but she was a good Christian woman, and looked forward with delight to when her "Good Master" as she often expressed it, would call her from labor to reward.
Though afflicted for about four years and during that time deprived of many of the enjoyments of this life, she bore it all without a murmur or complaint, her greatest anxiety, seemingly, being to free her companion and her daughter Flora from the care and kind attention which they unceasingly and cheerfully bestowed upon her. For several years previous to her death she was closely attended by relatives and friends, who knew her departure would soon take place, and on Friday morning, April 5, she tranquilly and without a struggle, closed her eyes upon scenes of earth, only to open them, renewed and refreshed, to behold the beauties of Heaven.
The funeral services were conducted by the writer at the United Brethern Church, on Sabbath, the 7th inst. The Church was crowded to overflowing with many relatives and friends, who came from far and near to pay this last tribute of respect to one who was beloved and highly respected by all who knew her. It is said she had no enemies. How forcible thus to live; how glorious thus to die!
"No sickness, or sorrow, or pain. Shall ever disquiet her now, For death to her spirit was gain, Since Christ was life here below." T.A. Miller
