Service of resurrection celebrating the life of Miss Anne Craig Grove will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015, in St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Pineville, with Father George Gennuso officiating. Burial will follow in Craig Cemetery, Kolin under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.
Visitation will be observed at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Evan Grove, Michael Hussman, Richard Burgess, Craig Grove, John Evans Denny, David Allen Burgess and Craig Kimberlin. Honorary pallbearers are George Thompson, Ron Ratliff, Richard Price and Herman Carmouche, Jr.
Miss Anne Craig Grove, 91, of Alexandria, passed from this life on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Grace Home, Alexandria. She was a longtime resident of the Alexandria area and owned and operated Anne's Coffee Shop from 1977 to 1991, a well-known restaurant on MacArthur Drive in Alexandria that was open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Before opening Anne's Coffee Shop, she served her country as a military wife who traveled the world with her first husband and the father of her children, Col. Robert Lee Grove, Sr., who died in 1963. She was also a Gold Star mother who remained active in the memorial group. Her middle son, Sgt. Richard Craig Grove, was 19 years old when he was killed in the Vietnam War on March 30, 1966, on the Dan Nang border. He belonged to the Famous Flying Horse Air Cavalry Paratroop Battalion. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Lee Grove, Sr., Jack Langston, Sr.; son, Sgt. Richard "Dickie" Grove; brothers, Herman Carmouche, Clarence Craig, Fred Craig, Sr. and sisters, Deaner Carmouche Soares and Opal Craig Denny.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert Lee Grove, Jr., Thomas Truman Grove and wife, Reta; daughter, Patricia Anne Burgess-Thompson and husband, George Gordon Thompson; stepson, Jack Langston, Jr.; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
