She was born November 25, 1923 in Sampson County and was the daughter of the late George D. and Louise Carroll Herring. She graduated from the UNC-G and spent most of her career as a N.C. Extension agent in Goldsboro, NC. She and her husband, David lived 5 years in Florence, SC, then many years in the Washington D.C. area, later in Raleigh and 20+ years in Wilmington upon retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wilmington. Rachel and David moved to a retirement home in Greensboro in 2005 to be near their son George and daughter-in-law Ronica.
She is survived by her husband David of nearly 52 years.
