Alice was the daughter of James A. and Elizabeth Amos Flowers of Bedford County, VA. She was the youngest of nine surviving children (five girls and four boys). The very youngest sibling was a stillborn boy on the 30th of Jul 1867. And Alice's mother died the day after.

By profession, she was a nurse.

Alice was first married to Joseph Showalter, who died seven months after they were married. Sometime after that, she left Virginia and was married to James R. Greenway, whom she divorced. Her third husband, Samuel M. Sperry, passed away after 25 years of marriage. Finally, on the 14th of Oct. 1924, Alice married Joseph Henry Long.

Death Comes After Several Months Illness
Ladoga- Susan Alice Long, 90, died of pneumonia at 1:05 p.m. Saturday in Culver Hospital. She had been in failing health for several months. She was born in Virginia on June 26, 1864. She was married to Joseph Henry Long in Ladoga in 1924. She was a member of the Ladoga Christian Church. Survivors include a niece, Anna Patton, Indianapolis ; a nephew, Marshall Showalter, San Angelo, Texas; nine step children, Sam Long, all of Ladoga ; Mrs. Lilly Gifford, Richmond, IN., Mrs. Mary Moore, Dalesville, IN., Mrs. Mae Hall, Detroit, Michigan; and Dorothy Weir, Mace ; 59 step-grandchildren and 121 step great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ladoga Christian Church with Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Burial was in Ladoga Cemetery.
