Passed away quietly at home on April 18, 2010 after a long, brave battle with cancer. Kernie was born on November 11, 1935 to Albert L. King and Marjorie L. Jones-King-Morris. He was a lifelong resident of Howell, graduating from Howell High School in 1953. He attended Michigan State University and Lawrence Tech. Kernie made a career as a mechanical engineer, working at Parker Brothers in Howell, which was later the Excello Corporation. Kernie retired from engineering and went on to pursue his many interests - genealogical research, nature photography and land conservancy. He served on the board of the Livingston Land Conservancy and was a member of the Livingston County Genealogical Society. Kernie was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Dolores King-Kellogg, and nephew Daniel Lee Kellogg. He is survived by his niece, Deborah Kellogg-Lewis, great-nieces, Bailey, Erin and Kim Mead, great-nephew John Mead and great-grandnephews Nicholas Mead and Levi Hart. He was eagerly looking forward to the birth of a great-grandniece this summer. Visitation will be Saturday, April 24th from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. from MacDonald's Funeral Home, Howell (517-546-2800). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Livingston Land Conservancy in Kernie's name. Envelopes available at the Funeral Home.
