HELEN ESTHER BAKER
Helen Esther Baker, daughter of Isaac and Alberta Winn Diley, was born March 8, 192 in Red Oak, Iowa and passed away June 25, 1983 at the Good Samaritan Center, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 81 years.
Helen grew to womanhood and graduated from the Red Oak School system and taught country schools in the Red Oak and Villisca areas for several years.
She was united in marriage to John Baker on May 7, 1921 in Corning, Iowa and they have celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary. To this union two sons and one daughter was born. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Villisca, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister Grace, brothers Lewellyn and Paul, one son John L. Baker, who died in action at the end of WW11.
She is survived y her husband, John Baker of Villisca, son John Baker of Villisca; son Laurence A. Baker and wife Dorothy, Stanton, Iowa; and daughter Gwen and brother Arthur I. Anderson of Unitey, Oregon; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Johnson, Villisca, one brother Ralph Dilley, Omaha, Nebraska, several nieces, nephews and may friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 28, 1983 at the Villisca United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Wainwright officiating.
Musical selections of “Rock of Ages” and “Nearer My God To Thee” were sung by Mrs. Chris Nelson, who was accompanied by Martin Hentsch.
Mrs. Larry Raney and Mrs. Bill Dunn were at the memory book. Ushers were Bill Dunn and Jim Raney. Flower bearers were Mrs. Jim Raney, Mrs. Dean Gourley, and Mrs. Don Means.
Honorary casket bearers were Don Means, Glen Findley, Willis Gourley, Dean Gourley, Bill Dunn, and Jim Raney. Casket bearers were John L. Baker, Stanley Means, Jack Parkhurst, Larry Raney, Bob Bryson, and Dick Dunn.
Interment was in the Arlington Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Sutphen Funeral Home, Villisca, Iowa.
