Services for Betty Jean (Ray) Hill were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Shipman Chapel. Burial followed at Sandtown Cemetery, Wagoner, Oklahoma. Services and arrangements were under the direction of Shipman funeral Home and crematory in Wagoner.
Betty Jean (Ray) Hill was the ninth of 13 children born to the union of Walter and Samantha (White) Ray on December 26, 1934 in Wagoner County. Betty received her education in the Brushy Creek and Wagoner schools. She was a proud Lincolnite, class of 1954.
Betty would marry Leonard Aaron Hill II in 1955. The couple lived in Wichita, Kansas and had a son: Leonard Aaron Hill III and daughter, Lisa (Hill) Newman. Death would part this union in 1967, and Betty later met and married John Tompkins. This union brought a daughter; Patrice Tompkins Everidge.
Betty was an active member of the Brushy Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed singing and fellowshipping with the "Brushy Creek Angels." She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Samantha Ray; husband, Leonard Hill II; son Leonard Hill III; brothers, Ray Charles Ray and Ralph Lee Ray; sisters, Martha Liggins, Sarah White, Ethel White and Etta Burrough.
She is survived by: daughter, Lisa and friend Chris Blaylock of Chouteau; daughter Patrice and husband Michael Everidge of Frisco, Texas; three grandchildren; brothers, Walter Ray, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas and Andrew Ray, Sr. of Chouteau; sisters, Maudline Burgess, Ruby Goode, Joan Hunt, all of Wichita, Kansas and Dorothy Roberson, of Chouteau, as well as a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
