"On Sunday October 12, 2008, my research friend and I decided to find the grave sites of my ancestors John Tune, his wife Mary Cooper and my other g..grandfather Enoch Williams. This Private cemetery had been censused by several of the Historical volunteers in Bedford county several years previously and was listed in the Cemetery Book of Bedford County, TN. Copying the way from the book, and obtaining directions from the local fire department, we set out to find the Tune cemetery located 1/2 mile north of Whiteside Baptist Church on Midland Road.....northwest of Shelbyville, TN.
We looked, and looked, and measured and looked some more. Finally, we stopped at several houses in the vicinity that we knew the cemetery had to be located. We found the man who had previously owned the land and kept the small cemetery cleaned. He received permission for all of us to drive back to the cedar tree grove where the burial site was located Imagine our surprise, and consternation when we found that the new owner had removed all tombstones! The only things left of the cemetery was the bottom block of a tombstone being used as a mounting block for getting on his horses and the cedar trees.
Such a waste!!! Vandalism of it's purest form. At least the cemetery was recorded before the new owner demolished it(sometime around 2005).
