Charles Anthony Botticello, 95, of 6 Beatrice Avenue, Bloomfield, beloved husband of the late Margaret (DiBattista) Botticello, died Friday (April 16, 2010) at Hartford Hospital.
Born June 4, 1914 in Bloomfield, son of the late Vito and Anna Lucia (Rescigno) Botticello, he was a lifelong resident of Bloomfield.
He had to leave school at an early age to peddle milk by horse and buggy from Bloomfield to Hartford for the family's dairy farm. Charles served with the National Guard and during that time he was called to active duty to preside over the temporary morgue at the Hartford Armory after the Great Hartford Circus Fire.
He was employed as a tool maker by Jacobs Manufacturing for forty-four years before retiring in 1987. Charles was an active member of Christ the King Church as well as Sacred Heart Church, Bloomfield, where he served as an usher during Saturday evening Mass for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was responsible for coordinating and cooking many of the spaghetti and corned beef and cabbage dinners over the years.
Charles was a Master Gardener not only with his own vegetable garden but he assisted with landscaping and decorating at New York City Home & Garden Shows as well.
Charles is survived by a son, William C. Botticello of Tariffville; a daughter, Carolann Dixon and her husband, Michael of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren, Amy Chafin and her husband, Michael, Adam Dixon, John Botticello, Laura Dixon, Thomas Botticello, and David Botticello; a great-grandson, Michael Chafin, Jr. Charles was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Botticello, and a brother, Michael Botticello.
Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Bloomfield.
Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
His family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
