DEATH OF REV. EPHRAIM LIGHT, AGED 77 YEARS
Retired from Ministry in 1870 - In Iron Business in Lebanon.
Rev. Ephraim Light, 207 North Sixth street, died this morning of neuraligia of the heart, at the age of 77 years. Rev. Light moved to this city from Lebanon about 16 years ago. He was born and his earlier life was spent there, except for the few years attending the Theological Seminary under the denomination of the United Brethren Church in Christ, from which he graduated in 1855, and accepted the ministry of various chrages assigned to him by the annual conference of that church.
Prior to this he was engaged in farming for several years in the vicinity of Lebanon. He retired from the ministry in 1870 and engaged in the iron and steel business with his brother, Samuel Light, which for years was the largest indistry of its kind in Lebanon. He later sold his interests to his brother and followed the mercantile business, from which he retired to move to Reading, where he took up his residence with his son, W. W. Light.
Deceased leaves a widow, Mary B. (nee Weidman) formerly of Sinking Spring; two children, W. W. Light, and Emma J., wife of Reuben H. Spangler, of this city, and seven grandchildren, as follows: Wayne W. Light, attorney at law, Philadelphia; Mrs. Bessie L. Ramsey, Bryn Mawr; Roy H., John G. L., Lila M., Lee and Herbert Spangler, all of this city.

His father, formerly a farmer, was identifed with the firm Shirk, Light and Miley, general merchandisers along the old Union canal. There was a large family of Lebanon County Lights indeed, and some intermarried with Sherks (as Rev. (W.B.) Felix Light married a Sherk). The spelling is different, but it bears consideration if one wishes to investigate this family more seriously.
