Carson was the eldest of two known children born to Mary Jackson and Carson W. Minard. After attending Ohio State University, he entered the U.S. Army on 8 Aug 1942. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant after graduating from Navigation School and became a B-17 navigator assigned to the ETO. During the war years, Carson married Betty Jeanne Boyer, a hometown girl, on 23 May 1942 in Lawrence, Ohio. They had several children before her death in April 1986. He married Lewyn Ascher Quinn, a widow, on 23 April 1987 in Sarasota, Florida. The burial locations of both wives is not known.

A PERSONAL NOTE: Lieutenant Minard was the navigator of the B-17 on which my brother, Eugene V. Oxford, was the Bombardier. The aircrew trained together in the U.S. and then ferried a B-17 to the U.K. in March 1944. They were assigned to the 524th Bomb Sq, 379th Bomb Gp, 8th Air Force at Kimbolton, England. Lieutenant Minard flew fourteen missions with this aircrew (13 Apr 1944 to 27 May 1944) after which he became the Navigator on Lead aircraft during the bombing missions. The heroism of our "Finest Generation" cannot be overstated.
