Eleanor E. (Stewart) Behrens was born on Sunday; August 8, 1915, in Manchester; Delaware County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Roy R. and Claire M. (Pentony) Stewart. Eleanor moved with her parents to Independence; Buchanan County, Iowa, only to return to Manchester, Iowa in 1932 when her father became ill. She attended the Manchester schools and returned to Independence in 1934. On Saturday; January 1, 1938 she married Chester H. Behrens in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1979. Eleanor was employed with the Wapsi Valley Creamery in Independence for over 44 years, as well as provided housekeeping and daycare service to many families in Independence, Iowa.
Eleanor E. (Stewart) Behrens, age 94, passed away on Wednesday evening; December 16, 2009, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo; Black Hawk County, Iowa following a short illness. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her four children; Christina Schnepf, Independence, IA., Judy (Burton) Cashner, Winthrop, IA., Roy (Mary) Behrens, Dysart, IA., and Richard Behrens, Independence, IA., seven grandchildren; Tammy Schweitzer, Laurie Snakenberg, Robert, Catherine, and Ben Cashner, Robert, and Jennie Behrens, and ten great grandchildren; Janelle, Jessa, Danielle, and Davien Schweitzer, Lexi, Jacob, Maci and Lucas Snakenberg, Ben, and Collin Cashner. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester in 1979, and six brothers; Raymond, Gilbert, Bobby, Sherman, Richard, and Hugh Stewart. May they rest in peace.
