Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Clover Harris Crump passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, in Fresno at the age of 91. Clover was born in Humboldt, Nebraska on December 2, 1918, to William and Mary Green.
She was married to Ted Harris in 1942 , and together they had four children.
She was widowed in 1955. In 1977 she married Benjamin Crump and throughout their 24 year marriage they explored the world together.
She was an avid traveler and was always looking for somewhere new to venture, a road she hadn't yet traveled, a diner she hadn't yet tried. As a single mother in the 1950's she always put her children first. She worked very hard to provide a good home and many experiences the kids would talk and laugh about over and over. She would hook a little teardrop trailer to the back of the station wagon and off she would go with the kids on another adventure. Camping became second nature. Many evenings she could be found at the bowling alley, sometimes bowling on three leagues a week.
Clover bowled on a league for more than 50 years. Baseball and softball were another of her passions.
She rarely missed a San Francisco Giants game and was a dedicated follower of Fresno State Women's Softball.
She and her softball gal friends attended the softball world series in Oklahoma City for many years.
Clover considered the gals she bowled with and the gals she attended softball games with among her best of friends.
Clover retired from The Fresno Bee after 35 years of proofreading for the newspaper, and was a member of the Printer's Union.
For many years she was a member of The People's Church and most recently attended Harmony Church in Fresno.
Clover had a true zest for life and treasured every day. She was an avid reader and had a hunger to learn about new things. She rarely left a crossword puzzle undone. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy.
She never focused on the last few years of health challenges, and always said, "I had 89 really great years". Mom, you fought a good fight. You are a woman of grace and beauty. Thank you for all you gave us and for all you taught us. You will be greatly missed, always remembered and much loved.
She was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband, Ted Harris; her husband, Ben Crump; her brother, Leland Green; her son, Hal Harris; and great-granddaughter, Kinslee Oaks.
Clover is survived by her daughters Arlene Rowan of Fresno, Ca., Linda Mitchell and her husband Brad, of Vernal, Ut., Pamela Viar and her husband Mike of Sanger, Ca.; daughter-in-law, Gail Harris of Sanger, Ca.; sister, Gloris Scampini of Fresno, Ca.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Page Funeral Chapel, 2014 Arrants, Selma, Ca. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at Harmony Church, 5372 E. Belmont Avenue in Fresno, Ca. on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 11:00 a.m.
