Mr. Austin, a retired employee of the city street department, died Thursday morning at Baptist Hospital of Huntingdon after a two-month illness.
He was born in Henderson County's White Fern Community, son of the late Robert B. and Minnie Acox Austin, and was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Austin had spent most of his life in the White Fern area, had lived the past few years in Jackson and was married to the former Lellon Ray Johnson, who died in 1979. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are two brothers, Finley Austin of Jackson and Luther Austin of Eagletown, Okla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Johnson of McKenzie and Mrs. Ida Byrd of Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Thomas, Oneal Thomas, Neal Johnson, Jim Austin, James Johnson and John Holt.
