Ms. Mollie Saxon Beard, born May 4, 1892 in Burke County, Ga., died at her home in Los Angeles, Calif., on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at the age of 111. She was among 41 known "super centenarians" (people age 110 or older) in the world, according to one gerontology research group in California. Ms. Beard was buried Friday, Sept. 5, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, Calif. Ms. Beard was the daughter of the late Edward D. Saxon, a soldier of the Confederacy, and Susan Sharpe. She was a real daughter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, Margaret Jones Chapter #27 of Waynesboro, Ga. In addition to her daughter, Eunice Brandon, Ms. Beard is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
