Duane "Trace" Tracy, age 83, of Ojai, passed away on Thursday, May 7.
Trace was born September 6, 1925 in Pipestone, MN to Elsie and Lucas Tracy and was raised in Pipestone with his younger brother, Lauren. He proudly served in the Navy while stationed in Europe during WWII. Upon completion of his military duty, he married his long-time sweetheart, Lois Raph, also of Pipestone. Several years after marriage and the birth of daughter, Teri, he was called again to active duty, spending two more years in the Navy. The family moved to Ventura County in 1952. He founded Tip Top Auto Body and Paint Shop in Ventura and ran it until he retired in 1992 when his son, Jeff took over the business.
He and Lois recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary with family and friends. She was still his sweetheart. Trace was a man of great integrity, and he led by example. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his brother Lauren, and his daughter, Teri in 1970, but he will be buried next to her on Friday. He leaves behind his wife Lois, son Jeff and wife Nita, granddaughter Rhonda and her husband Ryan Hyfield, grandson Ryan Tracy, great-grandson, Sayer Reid Hyfield, and long-time friends, John and Sherry Garberich Brockus. He also leaves behind a number of loved ones who thought of him as family. He will especially be missed by those who adopted him as "Grandpa Trace" because they wanted him to be their grandfather.
In his memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may by made to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Fund. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15 at 2:00p.m. at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Joseph Reardon Funeral Home.
