Mrs. Mattie Adams, resident of the Fletcher Chapel vicinity, died this morning at 3:15 at the Atlantic Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sunday. Mrs. Adams suffered a stroke Saturday morning at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nichols. Mrs. Adams, the daughter of George and Matilda [sic] Howell, was born March 25, 1881 [sic], in Davis County and came with her parents to Coon Rapids when a girl and later made her home with a sister, Mrs. Minnie Read of Cumberland. She was married Feb. 22, 1898, to Jacob Adams at the home of her sister near Cumberland and they farmed south of Atlantic until his death in 1939. Mrs. Adams was a member of the Coon Rapids Christian Church, but attended the Fletcher Chapel Methodist Church for many years. Surviving besides the daughter, Mrs. Paul Nichols, are a son, Kenneth Adams of Ranier, Ore.; a brother, Bert Howell of Coon Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Fred Adams of Cumberland, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Hardy Howell, and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Shane and Mrs. Minnie Read. Funeral services are pending word from her son. The body will be at the Roland Funeral Home until the service hour. ATLANTIC NEWS-TELEGRAPH, 18 May 1955.
