Muriel W. Barlow, 96, of Schenectady, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Muriel grew up in Schenectady and resided in Mattydale for 60 years. In 2009 she moved back to Schenectady to be closer to her daughter. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and the late Marjorie (Preston) Watrous. Muriel was a graduate of Schenectady High School, Class of 1931. She volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader in the late 1950s and 1960s and was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She enjoyed swimming, knitting and playing bridge. She was a member of the Mattydale-Hinsdale Seniors. Muriel was married to Lester Barlow on Thanksgiving day, November 21, 1940. She was predeceased by Lester in 1995; by her brother, Elbert H. Watrous Sr., in 1997; and by her son-in-law, Fred Martin, in 2003. Surviving are two daughters, Janet (David) Hidinger of Schenectady and Marjorie Martin of Racine, WI; her five grandchildren, Mike and Kevin Hidinger, Jeni Martin, Christina (Tom) Pier and Robin (Rob) May; a great-grandson, Henry Pier; as well as her nephews, Elbert "Skip" (Nancy) Watrous and Ray Barlow. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home Inc., 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by burial in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
