Howard Poland Bailey died at Claremont General Hospital in Claremont, NH on June 7, 1973 after a long illness. He was born on May 9, 1903 in Gardner, MA; the son of Richard and Florence (Perry) Bailey.

He has lived in Claremont since 1922. He was a member of the First Congregational Church where he had been a moderator, deacon, trustee, and chairman of the church remodeling committee. He served on the city council from 1951 to 1955 and also on the Goodwin Community Center Commission. He was member of the Worshipful of Hiram Lodge No 9 F&AM and the Woodman Chapter No 26 OES of Claremont. He had been employed by Joy Mfg Co for forty five years prior to his retirement in 1969. He had been a supervisor of the materials control department. Educated in Gardner schools, he graduated from Gardner High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA.

He married Helen Gare Coolidge on October 21, 1934 in Gardner, MA

Surviving is his wife of Claremont; two sons Fred C Bailey of Lexington, MA and Dr Richard H Bailey of Glastonbury, CT; daughter Ruth Vinton of Lyndon, VT; two brothers Harold M Bailey and Ralph L Bailey both of Ventura, CA; and sister Mrs Albert E Dell of Gardner, MA.

Burial is in Mtn View Cemetery.
