APPLE RIVER PIONEER DEAD
A. J. ANDERSON, PROMINENT
FOR MANY YEARS IS CALLED
Following a short illness another old settler passed to his eternal rest Thursday evening January 28, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 18 days.
Alfred John Anderson was born September 10, 1857, at Roasjö, Vestergötland, Sweden. At the age of 18 years he came to this country with his parents, locating in Pennsylvania; later the family moved to Rush City, Minnesota. On November 1, 1882, he married Johanna Peterson. They moved to Polk County, in 1884. They resided on their home place in Apple River Township until the death of his wife and since that time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Robert Stone.
He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, Lloyd of Balsam Lake, Wendell of Range. Five daughters, Mrs. August J. Carlson and Mrs. Robert Stone of Apple River, Mrs. Charles Lindquist of Mora, Minnesota, Mrs. Walter T. Peterson of Balsam Lake, and Mrs. Orville Peterson of Dresser Junction, Wisconsin, 19 grandchildren, two brothers, William of Rush City, Minnesota, Alvin of Center City, Minnesota, one sister, Augusta Johnson of Rush City, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by two daughters who died in infancy, his wife, on April 29, 1929, and one son Elmer on June 13, 1935.
Mr. Anderson was a man of sterling character, a good neighbor and a loving father. He has been a member of the Balsam Lutheran Church for over fifty years and as long as he was able was very active in church work and public life.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, January 31, in the Stenberg Chapel here, and at the Balsam Lutheran Church. The services were conducted by Rev. N. E. Vickberg of Centuria, vice pastor of the church. Several songs were rendered by Lawrence Olmon, Walter Carlson and Earl Carlson. There were many beautiful floral offerings. The funeral was in charge of Charles W. Stenberg. Pallbearers were S. P. Swanson, Axel Deedon, Dave Carlson, Edward Swenson, Joe Lundgren and Oscar Johnson.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral are Mrs. Charles Lindquist of Mora, Luella Linquist of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson and son Lawrence, and Mrs. Augusta Johnson all of Rush City, and Alvin Anderson of Center City.
