Served her country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Taught in rural schools, Wilton Schools and 30 years at Davenport Community Schools.
Member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 26, and 50 year member of the Purity Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include daughter, Carol Kelly and husband, Kevin, of Davenport,IA; sons, Dennis L. Bates and wife, Jane of Blue Grass and the Rev. John N. Bates and wife Nina of Rudd; 11 grandchildren, three sisters, Lucille Yedlik of Vinton, Alice Mealy of Mason City and Miriam and husband, Dr. Robert Baumann of Grinnell; two brothers, William Norton and wife, Judy of Lowden and Harold Norton and wife, Brenda, of Apple Valley, Calif.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Wesley Norton.
