Gilbert and his wife were quiet people and had few visitors and no servants. They were the parents of James B and Dr Charles A Ackerman.
Mr. Gilbert died at home at age 82 with his wife present. The Deputy Coroner O'Hanlon expressed the opinion that Mr. Ackerman died of apoplexy.
