Bessie Orpha Monroe, 83, of Friendly Acres Nursing Home in Newton, Kansas died March 13, 1996.
Mrs. Monroe was born July 17, 1912 near Concordia, KS to Charles and Minnie (Houshouer) Madison. Her mother passed away when she was very young. She attended school in the Minneolla/Concordia area. She was married to Walter
Marion "Bud" Bingham, February 23, 1929, at the M.E. Parsonage in Wichita, KS by the Rev. G.H. Cavit. To this union, 14 children were born.
The family made their home in Huntsville, Arkansas, and communities in Kansas, including Wichita and August. "Bud" preceded her in death on May 10, 1957.
She was married to Ralph Ellis Monroe on July 1, 1958 at Grove, Oklahoma.
They were living in Augusta, KS when he preceded her in death November 4, 1976.
Besides being a homemaker, she had also worked as a cook, baker, waitress and seamstress, among others. After the death of her second husband, she made her home in several other Kansas towns, including Burrton and Hutchinson.
Survivors included her sons and daughter-in law, daughters and sons-in-law, 62 grandchildren; 112 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandlchildren; several nieces and nephew; other relatives; and a host of friends.
