ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Lt. Col. Arne Christiansen, USAR (Ret.), 88, of Alexandria died Oct. 9, 2006.
He was the beloved husband of the late Lois Christiansen, formerly of La Crosse. He is survived by a sister, Else Lenser, formerly of La Crosse; and five children, Kay Davis and her husband Murray, Gary Christiansen, David Christiansen, William Christiansen and Ava Christiansen. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three nephews; and one niece.
He was born and raised in La Crosse. Lt. Col. Christiansen entered the service in July 1942. He served in Europe during World War II in the 17th Airborne Division, in Korea with the 25th Infantry Division and in Vietnam as a senior logistics advisor. He retired a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve in February l968. After retiring from the military, he worked in the private sector and in civil service until 1980.
A service will be Thursday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. at Fort Myer Chapel, Fort Myer, Va., with full military honors. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests sending donations to Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20016; or LSU Health Science Center Foundation, Attn. Pulmonary Hypertension Division, 1901 Perdido St., Ste. 3205, New Orleans, LA 70112; or to a charity of one's choice.
