Hellon Coffey Andrews, 85, of montreat, NC, wife of E. Andy Andrews, died on June 4, 2008. She was a resident at the Adult Care Unit of Highland Farms, where she had been an Alzheimer patient since January 2002.

She was born on July 4, 1922 in Bristol, Tn. to the late Broady B. and Martha Young Coffey. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Eloise Coffey Groseclose. Her high school years were spent in Johnson City, Tn. where she attended Science Hill High School. The family moved to Bristol, Tn. where she attended King College, graduating in 1944 with the distinction of "Best All-Around Student".

Upon moving to montreat, NC in 1965, Hellon began her long career with montreat College. She was first employed as the Manager of the montreat College Bookstore and Gift Shop and later became Director of Student Activities. She was loved by both faculty and students, who knew her affectionately as "Mrs. A". Her heart went out to students and the warmth of her personality engulfed them into her life. In November 2001, montreat College endowed the Hellon and Andy Andrews Service Scholarship which was presented to her and her husband at a gala held in their honor at In the Oaks, in Black Mountain. She was also awarded, in absentia, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by the college in May 2006.

Hellon was a member of the montreat Presbyterian Church. Her many years of service as Church Hostess endeared her to members and friends of the congregation alike.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, E. Andy Andrews of Highland Farms; a daughter, Sarah Andrews Murray and her husband Bill of Hendersonville, NC; a son, Al Andrews and his wife Nita of Franklin, TN.; and four beloved grandsons, David William Murray, Scott Andrews Murray, Daniel Hunter Andrews, and Brent Lockwood Andrews.

A private family service will be held at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain and a memorial service at the Anderson Auditorium in montreat on Saturday, June 14th, 2008 at 2:00 P.M.
