CALLED BY DEATH
Carl Best, an old and well-known resident of the town of Schleswig,passed away at his home on Saturday night at the advanced age of 77years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Decedent was born in Dheinheim, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, Sept. 16, 1844 and came to America in 1853 with his parents, who settled in the town of Rhine near the Sheboygan river. Two years later his father, Peter Best, purchased 120 acres of fine farming land in the town of Schleswig, two miles south-east of Kiel, which later became the property of the son Carl, who resided on the place until his death. He was married in 1876 to Louise Meyer, who survives him, with two sons and two daughters, namely, Louis of Kiel and Carl on the old homestead, Mrs. Ph. Mattes of Thorp and Mrs. Wm. Voss of Kiel. He also leaves nine grandchildren, one brother, Louis, of Sioux Falls, Dak., and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Hartmann of Sioux Falls, S. D.and Mrs. Susanna Frick, of Milwaukee. The funeral took place onWednesday afternoon interment being in the Rockville cemetery. Rev. W. Rech officiated. - Jan. 5, 1922
