AUGUSTA HOFFMAN BISH
Augusta Hoffman Bish was born in Berlin, Germany, October 5th, 1863, and passed away at her home in Giltner, Nebr., Wednesday, March 1, 1944, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 26 days. She came to Harvard as a young lady of 18 years, her parents having preceded her to this country. In 1863 she was married to Peter Bish at Harvard, and lived on a farm five miles south of Giltner until they retired and moved to Giltner in 1918.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bish, four of whom preceded their mother in death – Julia, George who died in U.S. service in 1918, Fred and Esther. Her husband also died some years ago. Surviving are two sons, Ed of Giltner and Charles of Grand Island; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Mintum of Idaho, Mrs. Flora Kreuger of Hoskins, Nebr., and Selma at home; also nine grandchildren and nine great children, one sister and three brothers.
Mrs. Bish was the organizer of the Giltner Cemetery Ass'n., which did much to beautify the cemeteries of Giltner, and was president for 15 of its 19 years of existence. She was also active in earlier years in the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor lodges. She was a great lover of flowers and many an occasion in the community was made more lovely by the flowers she provided. She was a member of the local Methodist church, and she always furnished the flowers and did much of the decorating for special occasions, until her health no longer permitted.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 4th, from the Methodist church with Rev. Aucock and Rev. Littrell of Arnold, Nebr., in charge of the services. Music was furnished by Mesdames Dodson and Ray Brown, with Mrs. Hays at the piano. The body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were P. J. Hohnstein, Clarence Dimmick, Tom Humphrey, Kinney Hanger, Harold Humphrey and Adam Schnell.

AUGUSTA HOFFMAN BISH
Augusta Hoffman Bish was born in Berlin, Germany, October 25th, 1863, and passed away at her home in Giltner on Wednesday, March 1, 1944, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 26 days. She was suddenly stricken as she had been in her usual health earlier in the evening, and had expected to visit her daughter in Idaho leaving on Thursday.
She came to Harvard at the age of 18, and in 1883 was married to Peter Bish. They lived on a farm five miles south of Giltner, until they retired and moved to Giltner in 1918. Nine children were born to this union, four of whom together with her husband preceded her in death. Those surviving are Ed of Giltner and Charles of Grand Island, Mrs. Anna Mintum of Idaho, Mrs. Flora Kreuger of Hoskins, Nebr., and Selma at home; also nine grandchildren and nine great children, one sister and three brothers.

From Selma Bish: "Augusta was the only one to come over after the family. She stayed behind because she was lady's maid for a rich family and did not want to leave." "It took her three weeks to get across, their ship struck an ice burg, almost went down. The men all had to take turns pumping out water till they got it repaired, they could not move till then."
