Mrs. Sawyer lived in Tampa, Florida for more than 40 years, moving to Mooresville in 2005. She graduated from VanBuren High School in 1931. In Florida she was employed as a bookkeeper for Wolf Brothers Clothing. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Tampa.
Mrs. Sawyer was married to LeRoy Sam Sawyer in 1938 who preceded her in death in 1964 . She was also preceded in death by siblings, Lacy Lee Nelson, Harlan Nelson, Alma Anders, Flossie Snider, Iva Reed, Louise Goodpastor, and Minnie Anders.
Survivors include her nieces, Kathleen Jay and her husband Nelson of Mooresville, Indiana and Barbara Maggart of Wabash, Indiana; a host of great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will not be observed. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010, 2 p.m., in West Newton Cemetery. Pastor Charles "Buck" Bunner will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Carlisle and Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville.
