Merry Katherine Hart Rummel was the youngest of five children born to Evelyn Hart Robbins. Merry is survived by her loving husband of 44 years; two daughters; four grandchildren; and two great granddaughters; two sisters, Margaret Brown of Olive Branch, Mississippi ; Martha Waldner (Harlan) of St. George, Utah; two brothers, Edwin "Eddie" Rummel and Kenneth Rummel (Mary) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Merry was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado and met her husband, Wayne while he was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Carson. They married December 15, 1960 in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Wayne's hometown of Tampa, Florida. Merry spent the next 40+ years in Tampa and missed Colorado Springs everyday. She gave birth to two daughters and fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a nurse in 1976 and for the next 17 years she worked at St. Joseph's Hospital. Merry kept the child inside her alive until the day she died; she dressed her dolls and kept them displayed around the house; she loved to color, she collected toys and spent countless hours playing with her children and grandchildren; one of her favorite places to visit was Disney World and she loved Disney characters, she loved to read and she read many different types of books but Disney and Little House on the Prairie were ones that she enjoyed reading to her children and grandchildren. Merry read so many books about the lives of different U.S. Presidents and the British Royal family. My mom loved watching Little House on the Prairie, MASH, Hogan's Heroes, the Golden Girls, all Shirley Temple movies, and many more. Merry also enjoyed counter-cross stitch, embroidery, photography, and going to yard sales just to name of a few of her hobbies. Her favorite place to eat was McDonald's, she would always get a Happy Meal and she collected the toys; her grandchildren thought it was so cool that grandma enjoyed Happy Meals as much as they did and she was probably more excited about the toy inside than they were. My mom would pick McDonald's over the most expensive restaurant in the city; it wasn't about money, she honestly believed McDonald's was the BEST place to eat. Merry loved a variety of music to include country, gospel, soft rock and pop and of course Christmas music. Her favorite singer was John Denver who sang many songs she loved but of them all "Rocky Mountain High" was truly her favorite song. She also loved Johnny Cash, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. My mom was truly something else and for those that met her she left a lasting impression; whether it was good or bad I assure you it was permanent. Hard not to laugh at some of the things she did that would annoy others that upset her or comments she'd make like when the neighbor threatened to call DCF because my mom spanked my nieces, my mom hollered across the yard, "If they can raise them better than I can they can have em!" My mom was a firm believer in spare the rod spoil the child. She never spanked me for no reason, I can assure you if I got the switch or belt I more than deserved it. I respected my mom as I grew up because I realized she spanked me because she loved me and wanted me to grow up with morals and character and respect for others. I hope she was proud of the job she did as a mother; in my book she was the BEST!
