Royal was born in Trivoli Illinois on May 12th 1842, to the parents of Royal R.Root and Louisa Rosanna (Kellogg) Root, He Married Emaline Burkhalter on February 25th, 1867 in Illinois, they had a daughter Emma on October 14th 1868, Emaline died June 15th ,1870 , she is buried at The Uniontown Cemetery in Illinois,she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann Burkhalter. Royal married again to Mary Ellen Horner on February 23rd, 1871 in Peoria Illinois. Royal was a Blacksmith and Carpentery, He served his country in the Illinois 86th Infantry, Company D, of the U.S. Army. He was Honorable discharged in Nashville Tennessee on May 30th 1865.
