Born May 18, 1906, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred and Mayme Koestner Hartman. He married Dora P. Sipes on Nov. 18, 1926 in Burlington.
He was the first over-the-road truck driver for Chittenden and Eastman Co. and retired from the company in 1971. He was a custodian at Farmers and Merchants Bank for 21 years, retiring in May 1992. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Teamsters Local 218 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pat Hemmie of Burlington and Carolyn Pietzsch of West Des Moines; two sons, Robert Hartman of Winterset and Stephen Hartman of Middletown; one sister, Evelyn Walsh of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one grandson.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Hartman will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel with the rev. Milton L. Geisler officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American cancer society.
