James's cousin James H. Boyle,(his uncle William Henry's son )was Commissioned an officer in Company C, Indiana 10th Infantry Regiment, Union., on 18 Sep 1861.
Both men were born within a month of each other in 1836 and spent time together when young men. James I am sure looked up to his cousin being an officer and may have wanted to follow in his footsteps.
James was living with his daughter Margaret E. Boyl Kirchner in Martins Ferry, Ohio when he became ill in early January, he was ill for a month before he passed away,from a malignant tumor ( Colon Cancer ) and old age, he was 87y and 28d old.
Fred Boyle is James's son and Lillian is Fred's wife.
