James was the son of Pleasant Greene Bristow and Elizabeth Hart.

James married Roxie Ann Cearley on March 25, 1887 in Douglas Co., Missouri. They had Henry Walter, Newton Green, William Elbert, Martha E., Everett M., Charles Thadius, and Edward Lea Bristow.

After Roxie's death, he was remarried on March 9, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co., Missouri to Emma A. Hardy (maiden name Lingo.

REV. JAMES J. BRISTOW

The Rev. James J. Bristow, 90, died yesterday at 6:30 p.m. at the home of a son, Walter, 2032 Roosevelt.

Mr. Bristow was born in Warich County, Ind. and moved to Douglas County at the age of 15 . He had lived in Billings since 1907, and moved to the son's home in 1953.

Rev. Bristow was ordained a Missionary Baptist minister in 1892, in the Bethlehem Mission in Douglas County. He was an active preacher for 70 years, retiring in 1952. For awhile he was state missionary and county missionary in Lawrence, Douglas and Cedar Counties. He preached at Clever, Pleasant View, Everton, Dogwood, and was Missionary Baptist preacher in Polk, Cedar, Christian, Green, Douglas, Stone and Lawrence Counties.

He is survived by five other sons, Rev. N.G. Bristow, of Route 1, Springfield, Bert W., of Ponca City, Okla., Everett of Ponca City, Okla., Rev. Lee of Boonville, Ark., and Charles of Mt. Vernon; 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Northwest Baptist Church, with the Rev. D.A. Beam and Rev. Russell Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Wise Hill Cemetery, north of Clever, under direction of Harris of Billings.

Pallbearers will be Gene Bristow, Wayne Bristow, Eldred Bristow, Ted Bristow, Harold Bristow, and Everett Bristow.
