PFC Hill, Battery D, 15th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, was initially reported Missing in Action on December 2, 1950, while defending Hill 1221 near the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. On December 31, 1953, his status was changed to presumed Killed in Action Remains Not Recovered. Hill was awarded the Purple Heart. Hill's name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing.
