His cenotaph in the Lexington Cemetery is the headstone of his daughter Betty Taylor Bronston.

William Hughes "Bill" Bronston Sr was the son of Charles Jacob Bronston, noted Lexington attorney, and his wife Susie Wallace Hughes. Susie died when Bill was two years old and he was reared by his father with help from his elder sisters Sallie and Kate.

Bill was married in 1917 to Nadine Snyder. They had two children, Betty Taylor in 1919 and Bill, Jr in 1923.

Bill graduated from Peekskill Academy and Northwestern University as a Lawyer. He practiced law for several years in Lexington and then quit the practice - family lore says Bill found it unconscionable when he successfully defended a murderer who admitted to being guilty.

Around 1920 he became involved in the fire insurance business, a field in which he worked for the remainder of his life.
