Jon C. Armentrout, 69, beloved husband, son, father, brother, and Paw-Paw, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 after a courageous battle with melanoma. He was born on March 15, 1940 in Springfield to Talford E. and Esta M. (Dixon) Armentrout.

He resided in Springfield his entire life, and retired as a supervisor from International Harvester following 40 years of service. Jon was very active in coaching his sons in Little League baseball in Northridge. He loved bowling with his wife, family, and friends at Northridge Lanes. He had a passion for following his grandchildren in their extracurricular activities and sporting events. He could always be found outside throwing a baseball or shooting baskets with any one of his children or grandchildren. Jon was a member of Northridge United Methodist Church. Everyone knew Jon as a caring, loving, easy-going family man.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, Esta, include his wife of 48 years, Ruth Ann (Adams) Armentrout; mother-in-law, Ruby Adams; daughter, Kelly Branch (Chad Conway); sons, Jon Armentrout and Doug (Teresa) Armentrout; brother, Jerry (Brenda) Armentrout; sisters, Patty Kimble and Jeanne Shatto; grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Amanda, Tiffany, Nick, Jordan, Chelsey, Taylor, Jared, Bailey, and Mallory; and great-grandchildren, Connor, Alainey, and Lexie. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George and Kathleen Featherolf, Tom and Debbie Curlis, and Mark and Mary Adams; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; niece, Kristen Armentrout; grandson, Logan; father-in-law, Lucian Adams; and brothers-in-law, Lucian Robert Adams II and Orville Kimble.

Jon will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family of which he was the heart and soul of their lives.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home.

Jon's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Northridge United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ken Woode officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
