History: Clarence Winthrop Bowen, The History of Woodstock, Connecticut Genealogies of Woodstock Families (Norwood, Mass.: privately printed by The Plimpton Press, 1935), Vol. V, p. 122. "William was Sergt. in Capt. Nathaniel Marcy's Co., which responded to the Lexington Alarm. His original commission was on file in Pittsfield, Mass. He was Ensign in Capt. Ephraim Manning's Co. (3rd Conn. Continental Regt.) May 1 to Dec. 16, 1775; and 2nd Lieut. in Capt. Lyon's Co., Conn. State Regt., June to Nov 1776; Lieut. under Capt. Ephraim Manning 1776; First Lieut. from Woodstock in 7th Co., Colonel Mott's Battalion, State Regt. Northern Dept., 1776. In 1780 as Captain he was ordered with his Company to Greenwich. Captain William was also in the French War. He moved from Woodstock to Peru, Mass., about 1784. In 1800-1802 he was a member of the Legislature."

Died in the 86th year of his age. Husband of Judith Frissell. Father of William Frissell Jr.
