In 1898, John Foster married Miss Mattie Victoria Standifer at Marlin, Texas. There were 13 children born to this union, four died in infancy.

Services at the Padgett Church of Christ were held for John Hugh Foster, 70, who was found dead at his home 15 miles southwest of Olney. Rev. Merwin Coad, pastor of the First Christian Church in Graham officiating. He was a longtime farmer in this area and moved to Ellis County, Texas at the age of 12. In 1906, he moved to Young County.

Survived by his children - Miss Nannie Foster; Loyd Foster, Mrs. Ola Brumley; Mrs. Ethel Wages, Thomas H. Foster, Virble Foster; Mrs. Florence Burleson, Garland Foster; one niece - Mrs. Ruby Wooten, one nephew - Arch H Foster; 30 grandchildren.

Funeral home records and obituary show that he was buried at Padgett cemetery. There is no tombstone in that cemetery.

He was preceded in death by a brother in Young County, William Robert Foster
