Henry Leroy Howard, 96, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robert S. Kerr officiating.

Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Odie Lee Kelly Howard and by his brother, Lewis Howard. He was born in Crisp County the son of the late Elma and Flura Dixon Howard. Mr. Howard served during World War II as Staff Sergeant of 118th Infantry Unit Georgia National Guard in Ireland, England, France, Netherlands and Iceland. He had worked in Macon for Birdsey Flour Mill then with Georgia Power. In Texas, he worked for Hess Oil Company and at the U.S. Naval Bass. Mr. Howard was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Model A Ford Club. -Survivors include two brothers, Frank Edwin Howard and Walter Jerry Howard of Macon; a sister, Grace Howard Mercer of Macon; six nephews, Ralph Kelly of McDonough, GA, Herbert Howard and Irving Howard of Cordele, GA, Durward Mercer of Macon, GA, Stephan Howard of New Orleans, LA and Scott Mercer of Lithia Springs, GA; seven nieces, Dorothy Johnson of Fort Valley, GA, Harriet Crawford of Macon, GA, Linda Scarborough of Savannah, GA, Marilyn Ardd of Duluth, GA, Arista Howard Sheffield of Cordele, GA, Patricia Howard Cowart of Chicago, IL and Cheryl Mason-Mercer of Macon, GA.
