Richard (Dick) W. Bordwell, of Silvis IL, formerly of Washington IA, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at the age of 85.

Memorial services will be held at a later time. Inurnment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, IA. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family.

He was born July 22, 1924 in Davenport, Iowa, to Burr Burton Bordwell and Mildred Hannah (Wabnitz) Bordwell. Burr Bordwell brokered flour for a living and received congratulations on the birth of his son from The Snell Mill and Grain Company of Clay Center KS. The price of wheat bran that day was $22.00 for 4 tons.

The Bordwell family established a livestock feed business in Washington, IA in 1940. Dick graduated from Washington High School in 1942, attended Washington Junior College, and later joined his father and brother in business.

Dick sold feed to farmers until 1979 when ill health forced him into an early retirement. While never a farmer, Dick enjoyed working with farmers and kept a close eye on the price of grains, hogs, and other commodities. Because of his health, Dick lived in Phoenix AZ from 1980-2005.

He married Esther Josephine Stewart on August 25, 1944. They were divorced in 1982.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Gauley, of Rock Island, IL; five children: Richard S. Bordwell (Virginia), of Washington, IA, John C. Bordwell (Martha), of Coon Rapids, MN, Millie R. Youngquist (Robert), of Washington, IA, William A. Bordwell (Donna), of Geneseo, IL, and Lynda L. Bordwell, of Cedar Rapids, IA; special friends, Luis Ortiz Morales and family, of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Marie Bordwell; and brother, B. B. Bordwell, Jr.
