Mary Jones Carter, 85, former resident of Springville, Utah and Pendleton, Oregon, was promoted to glory and rejoined her loving husband on Sunday, January 10, 2010.

Mary was born March 11, 1924 in Double Springs, Alabama, daughter of Austin Wesley Jones and Lula Lovett.

Devoted wife of Wayne H. Carter, they were married on January 28, 1944 in Miami, Florida. Wayne was born September 30, 1923 in Kirkland, Washington, son of Morlin Carter and Thelma Draper. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1979 at Payson, Utah.

Mary served as a soldier in the Salvation Army in Pendleton, Oregon for many years. Through her strength and her love for Jesus Christ she was able to love those in need regardless of their situation without judgment. She enjoyed crocheting, gospel music, and being with her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her four children: Helen (Bill) Markle of Pendleton, Oregon, Charles Wayne (Janice) Carter of Moyock, North Carolina, Janice (Mike) Kone of Salt Lake City, Utah and James Leroy (Maureen) Carter of Plain City, Utah; four sisters: Della (Raymond) Walker of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lela (Orville) Daniels of Mayflower, Arkanas, Wilma Jo (Daniel) Hyer of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Minerva Adaline (Howard) McCulley also of Mayflower, and one brother: Lloyd Dennis Jones of North Little Rock; ten granchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Austin and Lula Jones, four brothers: Simeon, Warren, Parker and John Jones; two sisters: Martha (Frank) Crow and Laura (Marion) Black, three half-sisters: Pauline, Grace and Myrtle Jones; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
