Obituary for Polly Hood
Mrs. Polly Hood Dead
Mrs. Polly Hood died at her home in Pine Level township on October 5. She was 86 years, ten months and twelve days old. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.G. Crocker, and she was laid to rest in the family burying ground to await the resurrection morn.
She leaves to mourn her loss three brothers: Messrs. W.R., Joe and Isaiah Massengill, who live in this county; and five children: Mr. C.W. Creech, of Raleigh; Mr. J.W. Creech, of near Durham; Mrs. Minnie Jones, of near Faison, and T.M. Bizzell, who lives at the home place.
We weep not as those who have no hope, realizing that our loss is her eternal gain. She had nine children, sixty-six grandchildren, 117 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Written by her youngest son, T.M. Bizzell Notes on the obituary:
1. The obituary says Polly is survived by five children but lists only four.
2. It's interesting that no mention is made of Bizzell Grove Church though I'm told she was one of the founders along with Uncle Tom and his wife Azzie Worley Bizzell.
3. Uncle Tom gives her name as Hood in the obituary. But the name on her tombstone is Bizzell and Uncle Tom listed her as Bizzell on the 1910 and 1920 census though she listed herself as Hood on the 1900 census....I found Aunt Polly's death certificate on the internet..., she was listed as the widow of Daniel Hood.
Polly Bizzell donated the land for Bizzell Grove church, and was one of the founders along with her son Thomas and his wife Azzie.
