Tribute of Respect
Brother A. T. Bass, who suddenly departed this life on the 27th of June last, was born in Nash county, state of North Carolina, in the year 1826. He was held in high esteem by the citizens of Gonzales county, who frequently elected him to positions of trust and honor, and in no instance can it be said of him that he forfeited that esteem. The latter part of his life he spent in the privacy of home. He was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church South and abounded in silent acts of charity.
Brother Bass was made a Mason in Gonzales lodge No. 30 in the year 1852. He took an active interest in whatever pertained to the craft and was an esteemed brother among us. His many good qualities will be held in perpetual remembrance by us. Knowing the nature of the disease that was preying upon him, he constantly realized and often spoke of it to his wife and intimate friends that his share of life was limited and that his end when it came would be sudden. His departure was as he had anticipated. But we rejoice to know that he was prepared for the great transition from this life to a grander one beyond.
We submit to the will of Him Whom we name and recognize as the Ruler of the universe, in His sudden call of Brother Bass from the lodge here below to eternal refreshment in the Grand Lodge above. Be it
Resolved. first: That Gonzales Lodge No. 30 A. F. and A. M. in the death of Brother Bass has sustained an irreparable loss, yet find consolation in the fact that its loss is his gain. Be it
Resolved, second; That we extend our heart felt sympathies to his family in this their great bereavement, the loss of him who was the greatest in all the world to them. Be it
Resolved, Third; That a certified copy of this tribute of respect, under the seal of the lodge, be sent to the family of our deceased brother; and that The Gonzales Inquirer be requested to publish them; and that they be spread upon the records of the lodge as a memorial
