She passed away in Jan 1858, at their home in Miami Twp., Hamilton, Ohio. Both the McKinney and Burn's family worked for John D Matson, on his farmland in Hamilton, O.

After their courtship, he married his second and final spouse, Margaret Barnes, who also was born & raised in Hamilton County. Several years junior to William, she had attended school with William's younger brother George. After they wed, William, worked a small farm, just west of Miami Town, in Whitewater Twp., Hamilton, Ohio. The first of their children were born while living there.

In 1865, William Henry McKinney, along with his younger brother George [Memorial# 2859862] served in the G Company, while their older brother Andrew [Memorial# 104058243] served in D Company of 5th Calvary Ohio, near the end of the Civil War.
The family moved to Indiana, in the spring of 1868, to Howard Co.,Indiana. By Jun 1870, they were in the Southport, Perry Twp. area. Later in Center Twp., by Jun 1880,in Marion County.
William purchased a small school house, on Belmont Ave., right on the Wayne Township's east boundary line, in Center Township. This area was once called "Sharpsville", later named "The Village of Belmont" by Mr. Knapps a large land owner, before it became part of Indianapolis.
Decades before our ancestors arrived, Sharpsville, was settled by the Charles F Riesner family and with the help of the few other local farmers, they built a one room school house, to educated the children. When completed it held 8 students.
This old school house was abandoned for the new two story brick school built on Reisner St. in 1881, later named West Indianapolis School #1. The McKinney family, purchased this Sharpsville, one room community school house, sometime before 1880.
William and sons, converted this small school building, into a nine room, one and a half story home. My great-great grandmother mentions in one of her writings, some of the rooms were very small. This old school located as William's home was # 77 [in 1896] on Belmont Ave, his house number was changed to #1827 by 1900. It was not located at the corner of Lambert & Belmont, as some of the old historical books, of West Indianapolis state. Sadly, it is not longer there.
They later purchased three additional lots just south of their original home, from David Johnson, for $600.00, in 1894, and built a small 3 room house at #1837 [in 1900] This little house, became the last residence Mr & Mrs McKinney, resided in together.
William & sons made a living in teamster deliveries, contracted work, delivering gravel, which was used to cover or repair the mud roads of WI, and surrounding areas. Other teamster business of West Indianapolis, included hauling coal for heating and lumber for building,and of course commodities and supplies.
The family were of the Methodist faith, and in 1886, William a founding member, helped with the construction of the new Methodist Church, built on then, William St., now Blaine Avenue. Years later it became the Blaine Ave. M.E. Church, and this building still stands today, as the St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Church, now located at 1427, South Blaine Ave.
On the 8th of January in 1901, he and his brother George, were in his horse drawn buggy, when it became trapped on the trolley tracks on Howard St., and were struck by a west bound electrified street car, at the corner of Lee St, in Indianapolis. His brother sustained serious injuries, but survived. William, was taken to his son Frank's home, at 1346, Lee St. [in 1901], where he passed, in just a little over two hours. He was nearing seventy three, at the time of his death.
Mr McKinney's will, includes Margaret his wife, and children are listed in birth order as follows, Melissa Coston, (ELiza Jane)"Lida" Butler, both daughters from his first union. Frank, Ezra, Eber, Turner and Estella McKinney. Also grandchildren from his deceased daughter, Alma McKinney Hensel, Fern, William, Walter, and Nellie Hensel.
His close friend David Johnson, was the executor of his estate. Date 22 May 1902.
