He was pastor of the Fourth Reformed Church on Belmont Avenue, Indianapolis from 1902 till his death. He attended Calvin College in Cleveland, Ohio (1884-1886) and the theological seminary at Mission House Academy, College and Seminary*, Sheboygan, Wisconsin (1886-1891). Ordained in 1892, he served as pastor for churches in Willow Wood, Lorain and Walnut Creek, all in Ohio, before accepting the pastorate in Indianapolis.

He married Carrie Belke Baus on Apr 14, 1891 in Akron, Ohio. Carrie was the daughter of Gottleib and Caroline Belke. She was instrumental in the promotion of a Sunday School for primary children at St. John's Reformed Church in Walnut Creek.

Louis died May 9, 1907 of tuberculosis. He and Carrie had 2 children: Walter and Esther.
