Clapp, John, Southampton. Return of men hired or enlisted into Continental Army from Capt. Lemuel Pomeroy's Co., sworn to at Southampton; joined Capt. Goodale's Co., Col. Putnam's Regt.; enlistment, three years; also, Pvt., Maj. Allen's Co., Col. Rufus Putnam's Regt.; Continental Army pay accounts for service from May 24, 1777, to Dec. 31, 1779; reported deserted Jan. 1, 1780, but served out the term of three years enlistment and more, as shown by certificate of Col. Putnam, dated West Point, Dec. 14, 1780; also, Capt. Nathan Goodale's Co., Col. Rufus Putnam's (4th) Regt.; muster return dated Albany, Feb. 9, 1778; mustered by Col. Woodbridge.

In June, 1769, John Clapp married Sarah Pomeroy 1751-1823, the daughter of Eldad Pomeroy and Bathsheba Howe of Easthampton, Massachusetts.
