Arthur "Chip" Lee Giese was born on August 16, 1946, to Arthur "Buck" Joy and Ella Ida Martha (Krahn) Giese.
Chip received his education in the Storden- Jeffers Public Schools and graduated in the Class of 1964. Chip then enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam from 1965-1969. He was an aviation electrician as a crewmember of the U.S.S. Pine Island and U.S.S. Yorktown and a member of the Sea Wolves. He also spent time picking up astronauts as they came back from space.
After being honorably discharged from the military, Chip lived in Grand Marais, until moving to Westbrook, Minnesota in 1998. Through the years, Chip worked for MNDOT as a snowplow driver and doing anything asked of him.
He worked for a short time for Cottonwood County as a jailer until retiring in 2000. After retiring, Chip continued to live in Westbrook until passing away at his home on November 14, 2009 at the age of 63.
Chip was a lifetime member of the Westbrook VFW Post, and a member of the Odegaard- Quade American Legion Post 401 in Jeffers and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Chip will be remembered for many things in life including his enjoyment of the outdoors, which included being an avid fisherman and hunter. But most of all, he loved and enjoyed his family, especially the pride and joy of his life, his four grandchildren, Kaylyn, Olivia, Carter and Peyton.
Chip's grateful family includes his daughter Jody Wolner and her husband, Mike of St. James; Chad Rudolph of Crosby; four grandchildren, Kaylyn, Olivia, Carter, and Peyton; his parents, Arthur "Buck" and Ella Giese of Windom; two brothers, Dallas "Butch" Giese and his wife, Joan of Jeffers, Kent Giese and his wife, Mary, of Duluth; and many other relatives and friends.
