Adam Dickey, Sr., Passes Away on Tuesday at 4:30.
Stricken While At Work In His Garden, Succumbs Within A Few Hours.
Adam Dickey, a well known citizen of Clinton county and of this city, died at his home on West Bald Eagle street, Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock. He was stricken while working in his garden on West Park street about 9:30 o’clock in the morning with acute indigestion and was unconscious when discovered. He was taken to his home and revived by a physician. Later during the early afternoon he was apparently recovering, but heart trouble ensued and he passed away within a few hours.
Mr. Dickey was 71 years of age at the time of his death, being born December 2, 1849, in Bald Eagle township. He was the son of Robert L. and Magdalena Dickey. He was reared and educated in his native township. At the age of 15 he found employment in the lumber woods, where he continued several years, In 1873 he rented a farm in Beech Creek township, his earning going mostly for the support of his mother after his father died. On April 25, 1875, he was married to Miss Sarah Earon, a daughter of John Earon, living in Beech Creek township. He purchased a farm in Bald Eagle township in 1880 and resided there until he took up residence in this city in 1906, giving up farming for the draying business.
During his residence in Bald Eagle township, Mr. Dickey was leader in community affairs. He was generally the first man to be approached in the inauguration of any enterprise tending towards the betterment of his township and community. He served as school director for 12 years, overseer of the poor eight years, road supervisor two years and township treasurer three years, discharging the various duties of these offices in a creditable and satisfactory manner.
Always a staunch Republican, Mr. Dickey was rewarded as a county official on several occasions. He served as a jury commissioner for a term of two years. In 1911 he was first elected as a member of the board of county commissioners. He secured re-election for a four year term in which he was serving at the time of his death.
Mr. Dickey was an active and energetic business man. As a servant of the tax-paying public he always used sound judgment and carried out his convictions with honesty. Privately, he is numbered among the self-made men of Clinton county who attained a comfortable competence thru his labors and exercise of economy.
Deceased is survived by his wife, three sons, John W., Robert L., and Adam C., all of this city; one daughter, Mrs. Clyde J. Messerly, also of this city; one brother, Alb05ert Dickey, Mill Hall, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah A. Fox, Pine Creek township.
Funeral services will be conducted at the house this afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. Oliver S. Metzler. Interment will be made in Sunnyside cemetery, Bald Eagle township.
