A funeral for Clell L. Alford of Southeast Portland, a retired long-haul truck driver, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Ross Hollywood Chapel. Private entombment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum.

He died of respiratory failure Sunday in a Milwaukie hospital at the age of 83.

He was born Nov. 27, 1908, in Philomath. Before moving to the Portland area in 1939, he lived in Eugene, where he married Velma O. Moskop on July 7, 1935. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Alford worked for Hyster Co. for 35 years until his retirement in 1973.

Mr. Alford served as the first president of the Southeast Shrine Club and was a past president of the International Footprinters. He was a past master of Waverly Masonic Lodge 174, Unity Lodge 189 and Portland Lodge 55.

Survivors besides his wife include a sister, Doris O. Tribble of Oakland, Calif.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the Masonic & Eastern Star Home in Forest Grove.
